No Math Team at your school? Are you a homeschooler? Or maybe you just want to be part of a team where each member works hard to win? We are pleased and honored to form competitive math teams to compete for ecae in the Continental Math League for 4th-5th graders, the Minnesota Junior High Math League for 6th – 8th graders and the Minnesota High School Math League for 9th – 12th graders for 2009-2010! Our Competitive Math Training coaches are former State math champions themselves.

Nationally honored veteran math coach Karl Bunday shares his talents with the elementary kids.  He has developed a novice program for 3rd through 5th graders which begins to introduce the concept of competitive mathematics in an engaging and fun format. The program has been a “hit” since it was first introduced in the summer of 2008 and each season we look forward to several returning students. Who said younger students don’t want academic competition? ecae students LOVE it! The ecae Continental Math Team will compete in the Pythagorean 5th grade Division, which will provide above grade level challenge for all our participants!

Coach Michel D’Sa has been teaching the ecae Competitive Math Level 2 for the past two years with great results. He has a mathematics degree from UC Berkeley, and was a high school math champion back in 2001 at both the National, State and Individual levels. Michel’s gift is in demonstrating problem solving in a clear, analytical way that really connects with high school age students. This isn’t your typical “boring math” teacher! He is truly a coach, really knows his stuff, rarely finds a problem he can’t solve, and will definitely “get back to you later” if he gets stumped! Michel is proof in action that there is never just one way to approach a problem. That’s the beauty of problem solving! Anyone who tells or teaches you otherwise, is NOT a true mathematician!

ecae will offer and administer the upcoming 2009 American Mathematics Competition 8 for middle school students in November.   The 2010 American Mathematics Competition 12 for high school students will be offered in February.  This prestigious competition is open to all students even if they are not part of an organized school math team.
