Selective College Advising Program SCA

What options are there for families of high potential students to receive quality college advising?  Consider the following:

  • It is a fact that within the state of Minnesota, public high school counselor to student ratios average 500:1.
  • It is a fact that few high school counselors are able to specialize in counseling students for placement in highly selective colleges.
  • It is a fact that most public school counselors have limited time to advise each student, with a majority of their time going towards signing forms, writing recommendations and sending transcripts.
  • It is a fact that the college admissions process today is highly competitive among all schools and all levels of abilities.
  • It is a fact that on average,  students seeking adminission to highly selective colleges will need to apply to a minimum of 5-7 schools,  as more of these schools reject or wait-list even highly qualified students .
  • It is a fact that students from the East and West coasts, make up a disproportionate number of each incoming class of “ivy-caliber” colleges.
  • It is a fact that families on the East and West coasts utilize private college advisors to help guide their students throughout  their high school years.

ecae offers a Selective College Advising (SCA) program specifically for the student who plans to apply to highly selective colleges and universities, including the “ivies”.  The goal of the program is to counsel high potential students in their unique search for colleges and universities that meet their academic, social, emotional, financial and geographic needs.  The program also aims to foster independence and a greater sense of self-awareness in each student through the administration and review of educational and career counseling instruments.  The program is advisory in nature and the final decision on selection of colleges rests with the student and family; ecae and its counselors do not guarantee acceptance to any particular college.  ecae and its counselors have no particular affiliations with specific colleges or universities, ivy-league or otherwise.

ecae has SCA program openings for students in the graduating classes of 2014, 2013 and 2012.  The program is flexible in nature, with Years 1 and 2 (9th and 10th grade) offered on a per consultation basis.  Years 3 and 4 (11th and 12th grade) are offered as a 2 year package.  For specific information on program components, counselors and fees, please email susanlee@ecae.net.
